Lions Clubs are a huge part of Giddings. There are 4 clubs in Giddings. The New Horizon's Lions Club, which is an all women club. The Evening Lions Club, The Noon Lions Club, and the Breakfast Lions Club. Each of these clubs give scholarships to Giddings High School Seniors.
Each club has a different due date for the scholarship application as well as different guidelines. Seniors can pick up applications from any Lion and applications should be at the high school counselors office.
Check back later in the year for updates on copies of these applications.

Scholarship Handbook for Galena Park High School
I was doing a bit of research last night and looked up my high school, Galena Park. They had the most amazing book for their students. It has 200 pages of Scholarship information. I have not looked at any of the listings and I do not know how often it is updated. But I know one thing is for sure, there are 1,000's of scholarships listed and you are bound to fit into one.
Check out this link: http://www.galenaparkisd.com/intervention/documents/gphs%20scholarships.pdf It has scholarships for colleges listed, as well as private scholarships. There are also tons of websites at the back so you can sign up for notifications about scholarships.
Happy Hunting,

Bluebonnet Electric Coop Scholarships
The first scholarship I wanted to list is from local electric coop, Bluebonnet Electric.
Bluebonnet gives 2 types of scholarships. One is academic, and one is a Trade and Technical scholarship.
In 2010, Bluebonnet gave (one time) scholarships to 35 students living with parents in a Bluebonnet service area.
To be eligible for a Bluebonnet Academic Scholarship the applicant must:
Be a graduating senior of a high school or an accredited Home Extended Studies program.
Be living in the home of a parent or legal guardian who is a full time resident in the Bluebonnet service area and maintains an active Bluebonnet account.
Be able to provide an original high school transcript with class size, ranking and a GPA of 2.75 or higher (based on an 85 to 100 point scale).
Turn in a completed Bluebonnet 2011 academic scholarship application which must be typed and signed by 5:00 p.m., (Date to be announced, usually in March).
This information is all from the Bluebonnet website and is subject to change when their information is updated.
I will post scholarships as I find them. I have dozens to post for Lee County alone. Talk to you soon,

Texas Scholarships by County, starting with Lee County
It is the 5th day of school, and I decided that I would change my focus this year. My daughter is in 7th grade and goes to a private school. I got to thinking about whether I wanted her to go to public school for her highschool years. Then my focus changed and I got to thinking what scholarships would be available for her if she did or did NOT go to public school.
Living in a small community has it perks. They give many, many scholarships. We have dozens of clubs here that work hard doing fundraisers all year just to give scholarships to our seniors.
The 2010 graduating class students received $300,000.00+ in funds if I am not mistaken. That is a lot of money for a small town. This does not include all the schools in Lee County. I will have to do some research but I believe there is a wealth of scholarships out there and our children need to know about them.
Check back often for lists of available scholarships, locations of applications, and dues dates. I am hoping to provide valuable information for our upcoming graduates.
Have a marvelous year,
